Background of the Study
Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) are widely used for banking transactions, allowing customers to access their accounts, withdraw money, and perform other services. However, ATMs have become attractive targets for cybercriminals due to vulnerabilities in their communication and data storage systems. Despite the implementation of traditional encryption techniques, ATMs remain vulnerable to attacks such as card skimming, data breaches, and man-in-the-middle attacks.
Quantum cryptography holds promise as a more secure method of protecting ATM transactions and communications. By leveraging quantum encryption methods like Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), it is possible to establish a level of security that is resistant to eavesdropping and hacking, even in the presence of powerful computational resources. This study aims to investigate how quantum cryptographic techniques can be implemented to enhance the security of ATMs at First Bank, Minna, Niger State.
Statement of the Problem
The current encryption methods used to secure ATM transactions at First Bank may be susceptible to advanced cyber-attacks, putting both the bank and its customers at risk. The study will explore how quantum cryptography can address these vulnerabilities and provide a more secure environment for ATM transactions.
Objectives of the Study
To explore the application of quantum cryptographic techniques in securing ATM transactions at First Bank, Minna.
To evaluate the effectiveness of quantum key distribution in protecting ATM communications from hacking and data breaches.
To assess the feasibility of implementing quantum cryptography in the existing ATM infrastructure at First Bank, Minna.
Research Questions
How can quantum cryptographic techniques be implemented to secure ATM transactions at First Bank?
What is the effectiveness of quantum key distribution in protecting ATM communications against cyber-attacks?
What are the challenges and feasibility of integrating quantum cryptography into the ATM infrastructure at First Bank, Minna?
Significance of the Study
This study will contribute to the development of more secure ATM systems by integrating quantum cryptographic techniques, reducing the risk of cybercrime and ensuring the safety of customers' financial transactions. The findings will be beneficial for First Bank and other financial institutions seeking to enhance ATM security.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on the implementation of quantum cryptographic techniques to enhance ATM security at First Bank, Minna, Niger State. It will not extend to other types of banking systems or institutions outside of First Bank.
